If you live in Beloit's , this one's for you. The city will receive $6.36 million to replace lead service lines, making it one of 12 Wisconsin municipalities getting extra state money for the work. Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced the funding.

The city announced Thursday that it will use forgivable loans to replace both public and private side lead lines in those tracts, which have the highest number of lead service lines in town. A is the pipe that carries water from the main to a property. The public part runs to the curb stop near the property line, and the private part runs into the home.

  • Private side: the city will look for qualified contractors
  • Public side: city excavation employees do the work
  • Length: at least three years

  3. 2037EPA requires public water systems to replace all public and private lead service lines.

The city's Consumer Confidence Report shows lead was not detected above the action level in the water system when it was last tested. Wisconsin Power & Light stopped using lead laterals on the public side after 1936.
