- ➤ The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said that UW–Madison Extension discovered Japanese stiltgrass—an invasive plant—in a private woodland near Beloit in Rock County and found no other infestations nearby. WKOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Department of Natural Resources warned ATV and UTV riders to follow safety rules as summer winds down and hunting season nears. Data shows 69% of crashes occur on public roads and many riders did not wear helmets or hold valid certificates—officials say alcohol and unlicensed driving add to the risk—while certification classes remain available. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Mercyhealth agreed to pay more than $1 million to settle allegations of religious discrimination in its COVID-19 vaccine policy at facilities in Wisconsin and Illinois. The settlement requires the health system to reinstate terminated employees, provide back pay and damages, and update policies—also training staff on religious accommodation requests. WKOW
- ➤ Rock County Health reported that mosquitoes collected in the area have tested positive for West Nile virus—the first such detection since early July—with no local human cases recorded. Residents are advised to reduce exposure as mosquito activity will continue until a hard frost sets in. WKOW
